I had an idea while playing some of my RP games and wondered what you all thought of it.
See we really don't have a system for regular trainers to make back their money except tournements right now. And seeing as there aren't enough people yet to really hold a tournement, I was wondering if you would like to have a Quest Forum. In this forum, we can post what would be known as side quests. These would be in character but separate from your RP.
HOWEVER! You may only participate in Quests near your area. You can't be in Goldenrod and take on a quest in Olivine unless you get on the tram and go there, which may or may not be worth your time and money.
There will be busy quest towns and slow quest towns, obviously, but we'll try to keep them as "honest" as we can to the real deal. So it's gonna be obvious that a few towns are gonna be Quest Hotspots. Namely:
- Goldenrod
- Olivine
- (Insert major cities on the map)
There will be quests in smaller villages, but there aren't so much demand for questers in smaller villages as there are in bigger towns. (unless you plan to ask someone to take on a quest and then pay them.)
For Example, one of the ideas I had would be this:
Subject: Entertainment Quest
Commissioner: (who wants the quest completed/who's paying you) Showgirl (this can be anyone who has the money to pay or we can do it with NPCs; you can request someone capture a pokemon for you or obtain an item for you and we can arrange the quest. Typically quests are expected to be between 2 and 3 posts long. You're going to be expected to put a lot of thought and detail into those posts.)
Requirements:
This is going to be where the commissioner/judge puts the guidelines for your entry to their Quest. These can be anything from a length requirement to what must be in the post to what absolutely cannot be in the post.
Bonus Points! - There are going to be three basic kinds of bonus points a commissioner can choose from to issue to their quest. Or they may not issue any at all. But the three kinds are:
Creativity - Dazzle me with your imagination. You can pick one area to let your questers loose on or just tell them to go completely nuts with their post and the craziest one wins if you just need a laugh.
Logic - This one's harder if you don't know the nitty gritty of the games. Logic is accuracy and solid fact. If you can solve a problem with these and impress your judge, you get higher points. Say a professor asks you to "study" a Bulbasaur in a greenhouse. The better your observations, and the more realistic, the more Logic Bonus Points you'd recieve. Or they could ask you to "explore" an area. Then you'd have to use logic to tell about the area you're asked to explore.
Surprise - Although this could be closely associated with "creativity" it's not exactly the same. Surprise is when someone wants a real KA-BOOM ending. You can use creativity or little known logic to do this, but it heavily relies on your writing ability and how well you can plan out your post. Typically if there are multiple players competing for Surprise points, the one who's has the most shock to it would win. Remember, Surprise is neither based on fact nor creativity. It's a mixture of the two or neither at all. (Keep in mind if someone mentions "Realistic Surprise" You can't do something completely crazy like have a Gundam swoop in and destroy the area. If you're making a commission, be sure to mention what kind of surprise you want. Same with where you want your creativity and logic.)
Special Requirement - This requirement will be one with VERY SPECIFIC GUIDELINES. You cannot deviate from these guidelines in your post. Say they require that you fall into a lake. If you do not in the course of your post fall into the lake, you can at best expect to get a consolation prize (3rd place).
Prize/Awards:
NOTICE: You cannot pay someone with an award you don't have. You can't promise a green speckled Togapi egg if you don't have a green speckled Togapi egg, got it? Same with money. You can't promise money you don't have. The only one's authorized to make NPC Quests at this moment are Admin.
1st - (Typically Money or a Rare Item) You did very well! Thanks for your help!
2nd - (Lesser amount of money or an item) You did so-so. Not bad for an amateur.
3rd - (Least amount of money or a consolation prize) Not terribly impressive... but at least you tried.
In a Player Commissioned Quest, you have two to three posts to do the Quest, complete all the guidelines in the Quest and do it in a way that impresses your judge/commissioner. This means you're going to have to use all your grammar skills, creativity and of course any edges your character has.
NPC Quests will typically be done in one post. You have one post to do what the NPC asks you to. This post can be as long or as short as you deem necessary, but keep in mind what the NPC will be looking for. They could even be asking you to battle a wild pokemon for them.
Examples:
Subject: Missing Crossroads.
Commissioner: (NPC) Sojourner Strange
Quest:
"I need someone's help! I tried to use the path through the forest to get to Town A but I got lost. There I was just following the path when I noticed that it stopped right in front of a tree. Just stopped! But even stranger! The tree wiggled! I'm sure there must be a way to get rid of the pesky tree but I can't figure it out! Please, someone, help me!"
Requirements:
- You must journey through the forest, come upon the tree, discover it's true nature, and remove it from the path all in ONE post.
- You must describe what the tree looks like and why it is blocking the path.
- BONUS POINTS : Creativity. I don't know what the tree is, but I'm sure you'll find out it's something interesting. (Creativity Bonus Points means the more interesting and entertaining you make this aspect, the better your score will be, even if your barely are able to complete the other requirements.)
- Special Requirement : You CANNOT use a watering can.
Prizes:
1st Prize - 500 credits
2nd Prize - 250 credits
3rd Prize - A Psyduck Plushie
Another Example:
Subject:Entertainment Please!
Commissioner: (NPC) 5 Yr Old Girl
Quest:
"My friends and I play at the park everyday. Sometimes there are people in the park that entertain. Some do magic and some do pokemon training tricks and some do other stuff. But lately no one's been entertaining. We miss seeing the entertainers! Please come entertain us!"
Requirements:
- One Post Limit : You have one post to complete your act in the park. Any more than that and we'll get bored of your act.
- Super Fun : Your entertainment will be more entertaining if it's kind of original. But there are some classic acts that are fun too. Just make sure it's fun to read.
- Surprise : I like entertainment with a surprise ending, please! Make it a Grand Finale that everyone Ooohs and Aaaahs at!
Prizes:
1st - 1,000 credits from the crowd you draw in.
2nd - 500 credits from the crowd you draw in.
3rd - 250 credits from the crowd you draw in.
4th - A Berry (because it reminds me of a tomatoe and I thought it was funny)
If anyone finds this idea appealing, please respond. I personally think that it solves the problem of people using their poke credits on tram tickets and such with no money coming back to them.
This way there is SOMETHING they can do to make a little cash. Training's expensive, right?
