Name: Molly Elizabeth West.
Age: Eighteen.
Gender: Female.
Hometown: Vermillion City.
Money: $1,700.
Bag:
- Pokéballs x 5
- Potions x 2
- Blanket
- Two changes of clothes; not including what she's wearing, or her bathing suit.
- Pokédex
- Sketchbook & pencils.
Appearance: The girl stands at a mere height of five-foot-one, and weighs in at 106 lbs. Because of her height, or lack there of, people often assume she’s much younger than she actually is; in other words, they mistake her for being a newer, less experienced trainer. And to add to this seemingly younger appearance she has bright emerald eyes, which hold an endless amount of child-like curiosity.
Her head is topped off with golden blonde hair that fall just passed her shoulders, though is usually pulled back into a messy ponytail. Leaving only her bangs loose; which fall across the right side of her face.
The petite girl has a rather slim figure and lacks many curves to her dismay. Molly’s most comment attire consists of a pair of denim short-shorts (sweatpants if it‘s cold) and a simple t-shirt or tank top. White and purple high top sneakers are usually loosely tied to her feet and on chillier days she wears a grey zip-up hoodie over her shirt. And she almost never goes without her black fingerless gloves, but if she does, they’re stored in her tattered navy blue backpack that she’s always hauling around.
She doesn’t wear any makeup, and besides the fact that it would be almost pointless if she did, she really doesn’t need it. She has a decent complexion, and dark full lashes surrounding her eyes. Her lips are a bit too full for her slightly angular face; but all in all she’s not too shabby looking. Now that’s not saying she’s drop-dead-gorgeous, not even close in fact, but she is fairly easy on the eyes.
On the upper part of her left arm she has a tattoo of a star pendant (as seen in the image above); done in black ink of course. Along with this she has a single piercing; the top cartilage of her right ear holds a small silver barbell.
Personality: Having grown up with her father and two brothers Molly shares their competitive nature; though when she loses at something (ei. A battle or a game) she’s never discouraged. Well, not usually anyways. It takes a lot to put down this optimistic girl, and a whole lot more to keep her down. She has a high spirit, and there’s almost always a broad grin plastered to her face.
She’s quite friendly, and is always willing to lend a hand where she can give it. Though that part comes from her more motherly side. Having been the only female in her household since her mother’s death, Molly developed a very ‘motherly nature’ towards people and Pokémon alike when they’re in need.
But along with all of this she’s a bit on the naïve side, which has left her emotionally bashed a few times. But she’s not one to mope around or burden others with her problems (a trait she got from her father). She doesn’t often cry in front of people, in fact she’ll avoid such a thing at all costs. Like her father, she doesn’t enjoy pity from other people; though in a sense that makes her a hypocrite. Considering she’ll almost always be there for someone when they’re down in the dumps, even if they’re not extremely close.
The petite girl also tends to be a bit sarcastic at times, though knows when things have gone too far, and when she needs to back off.
All in all she’s a decent girl, just looking to get through life; and to have fun and make a few friends along the way.
Pokémon:
Growlithe - Jun
Male
Level: 25
Move List:
- Bite - Bites with vicious fangs. May cause flinching.
- Flame Wheel - The user cloaks itself in fire and charges at the foe. It may also leave the target with a burn.
- Ember - A weak fire attack that may inflict a burn.
- Roar - May scare off the foe.
- Odor Sleuth - Removes any evasive modifiers on the target Pokémon, and allows the user to hit the Pokémon with attack that would normally do no damage. Ex.) A fighting-type move against a ghost-type Pokémon.
Pokémon Personality: Jun, being Molly’s starter Pokémon flaunts his dominance to the rest of the team. He’s a very proud Pokémon, though lacks the regal-ness of his next evolutionary form, Arcanine. Even despite this minor set back he thinks quite highly of himself, and believes everyone else should as well.
But along with this Jun is extremely protective over Molly, as well as the other Pokémon in her team (and if this goes for any of Molly‘s companions, though there have been cases where he couldn‘t have cared less about particular individuals). And going hand-in-hand with his protective demeanour he’s as loyal as they come; and would never disobey commands given to him by his trainer.
Molly has a strong friendship with each of her Pokémon, though hers and Jun’s seem to outshine the rest. He’s constantly out of his Pokéball, for he prefers to walk side-by-side (or ahead of) with his trainer.
Jolteon - Kisan
Female
Level: 23
Move List:
- Thundershock - An electric attack that may paralyze the foe.
- Sand-attack - Reduces the foes accuracy by hurtling sand in their face.
- Hyper Beam (TM) - Powerful, by leaves the user immobile the next turn.
- Quick Attack - An extremely fast attack that always strikes first.
- Tackle - Charges the foe with a full-body tackle.
Pokémon Personality: Kisan is an overly friendly Pokémon, always eager to meet new acquaintances and make new friends. And if you just happen to have a snack of some kind, she’ll love you forever. She thinks with her stomach; if she can get an edible reward out of doing something, she’ll do it. Whenever Molly turns her back on the electric dog she usually ends up finding Kisan sucking up to strangers, playing up her ‘cute act’ in hopes of feeding her gluttony. She’s also a bit of a thief, so long as you can eat it that is. Whether it be from the rest of her team, Molly, or a complete stranger, she’ll take the chance of getting caught. And on that note she’s quite sneaky, which can sometimes come in handy during a battle; while other times it simply frustrates her trainer.
Poliwag - Aiko
Male
Level: 20
Move List:
- Ice Beam (TM) - Blasts the foe with an icy beam that may freeze it.
- Hypnosis- A hypnotising move that may induce sleep.
- Double Slap - Repeatedly slaps the foe two to five times.
- Bubble - An attack using bubbles.
- Water Gun - Squirts water to attack foe.
Pokémon Personality: Aiko is extremely laid back, and content on simply sleeping the day away. Even occasionally during a battle it takes him a couple of hits before he really gets into it; but right afterwards all he wants to do is sleep.
He’s not an overly friendly Pokémon, nor is he often hostile. He’s simply solitary, preferring to be left alone the majority of the time. Though sometimes he does crave the company of others, but for the most part he’s happy just spending time in his Pokéball.
Bellsprout - Kusuma
Male
Level: 19
Move List:
- Vine Whip - Stikes the foe with slender, whip-like vines.
- Stun Spore - Scatters a powder that may paralyze the foe.
- Wrap - Wraps and squeezes the foe with vines for 2 to five times, etc.
- Sleep Powder - Scatters a powder that may cause the foe to fall asleep.
- Bullet Seed (TM) - Shoots two to five seeds in a row to strike the foe.
Pokémon Personality: Kusuma is a very curious and quirky Pokémon, not to mention a bit naïve. He often wanders off, unintentionally getting himself lost and worrying his trainer. He enjoys meeting new people, not to mention Pokémon, and is really rather friendly. The first time he met Molly, the Bellsprout stumbled into her camp and attempted to rummage through her bag; though Jun quickly put a stop to that. He has a very optimistic attitude, but when it comes to battles he gets downright serious.
Poochyena - Kazuo
Male
Level: 9
Move List:
- Tackle - A physical attack in which the user charges and slams into the foe with its whole body.
- Howl - The user howls loudly to raise its spirit, boosting its Attack stat.
- Sand-attack - Sand is hurled in the foe's face.
Pokémon Personality: Kazuo is extremely persistent, and won't give up unless he has too. Along with this he is very playful, and quite friendly. After befriending this creature he'll be your friend for life, and stay practically attacked to your hip.
He's a bit timid around strangers, though warms up to new people/Pokemon quite quickly. That is of course, under the right circumstances. Upon your first meeting with Kazuo, if you manage to irritate him enough, he'll hold it against you until you can earn his respect. And on this note, he's a bit vindictive, in such was as nipping at your heels when you least expect it, or just being all around stubborn. Though he can be swayed, when his mind is set to one thing, that's what he's going to do. No if, an's, or but's; well, unless his train steps in that is.
History: Molly was born into a loving family of three, which consisted of her mother (Linda), her father (Charlie), and her brother (Dale) whom was born three years earlier. Her parents owned a small ranch where they bred and raised a variety of different species of Pokémon; their cozy residence residing just outside of Vermillion city, not even a half-hours walk away.
Each and every Pokémon raised on the West’s family ranch would grow up healthy, and more often than not, quite strong. Quickly they earned the respect of the people of Vermillion City, along with neighbouring cities. Professors requested some of the Pokémon as starters for beginning trainers, the West’s gratefully obliged.
Approximately one year after Molly was born her mother became pregnant for the third, and final time. During the nine months that followed nothing of great significances happened; the ranch flourished, the children were happy, well as happy as one can be. They were of course tantrums, sudden bursts of tears that would frustrate both Linda and Charlie; but all in all life was good. The nine months seemed to fly by for the family (except maybe for Linda), and soon enough Aidan was introduced to the rest of the family. At first the now two-year old Molly dismayed by the infant; he seemed to be hogging all of the attention, which was what the young girl had been accustomed too.
But over the time span of a few weeks the young boy began to grow on her; well when he smiling at least, and not waking her up in the middle of the night with his blood curdling screams for attention. That, and when he didn’t smell like he needed a diaper change. The couple of months that passed from there weren’t exactly what one would call bliss, but it was good enough for the West family. They were fairly simple people; and didn’t ask for much, as long as they had a roof over their heads, food on the table, and the loving affection of their family all was good in their eyes. They never asked for favours (mainly because of Charlie‘s pride), nor material objects, and they most certainly did not request the sudden misfortune that was bestowed upon them.
Nearly half a year passed since Aidan’s birth when Linda started getting sick. Some days the pain was mild, while others it was so fierce the woman had trouble getting out of bed in the morning. She’d been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and the family lacked the kind of funds to get her the help she so desperately needed. Linda fought hard against the cancer, but her efforts were in vain and three months later her inescapable fate took the devoted mother, and loving wife, to her grave.
During Linda’s struggle against cancer the ranch slowly began getting neglected, which seemed to be inevitable with Charlie being the only one capable with running it. After his wife’s death the ranch continued to see neglect, what with mourning over his loss and tending to his children; having to now take over both of the parenting roles.
The year of the terrible-twos was almost over, with Molly’s third birthday quickly approaching. The young girl lacked the depth to understand the seriousness of all that had happened over the past months, and so her carefree spirit continued to live on. Dale, her older brother, was six by this time, and could understand all that had happened; to a point at least. Out of the three siblings it hit that particular boy the hardest, while the other two were relatively fine due to their lack of maturity, and lack of being able to process it all.
The years that followed were not the most heart-warming ones; instead the family strived to simply get by. The neglect towards the ranch ceased, but the same effort that had once been put into it also ceased. Charlie had far too many responsibilities to put that kind of time and energy into the Pokémon that resided on the ranch. But once Dale was old enough the boy began helping his father out where he could, as did Molly after reaching the age of seven. Quickly the tradition feminine jobs became Molly’s responsibility; dishes, laundry, but never cooking. To this day she continues to have trouble making toast without at least one side looking black as charcoal.
Even though she was around Pokémon everyday of her life she developed a very small interest in them, unlike her brothers who would constantly beg their father to let them leave the ranch when they were old enough; to let them become Pokémon Trainers. At first their father denied these request, but with much persistence he finally caved and agreed when they reached the age of thirteen they could begin their journey.
Still at the age of nine Molly had yet to find the desire to become a Pokémon trainer; she was around them constantly at the ranch, what was the point of her going out to find new ones? But one day when she was feeding some of the Pokémon she noticed an injured Pidgey laying in the middle of the field. In fear of the creature being trampled by a large Pokémon the girl quickly ran towards the injured bird-like Pokémon and assessed its injuries. There was a chip in its beak, and one of the fragile bones in its wings were broken; areas on its body lack feathers; the poor thing looked like it’d taken a bad beating.
With her motherly instincts kicking in, Molly took it upon herself to nurse the Pokémon back to health. During the time she spent with the Pidgey, which she nicknamed Hayato, she un-expectantly formed a strong bond with the creature.
Once the Pokémon was completely healed Molly reluctantly let Hayato fly away one morning; but not before she’d taken a sudden interest in Pokémon, both on and off the ranch. And now, like her brothers, she was eager to reach the age of thirteen and begin her journey. But yet, that was still a whole four years away; and nearly two for her younger brother. Even Dale, having only about a year left of waiting, was getting impatient for his birthday. So the three siblings confront their father, trying to persuade him to let them begin their journey a year earlier; but to no avail he declined this request. However, he did tell the three of them when they reached the age of twelve they could go and get their starter Pokémon; the same day Dale practically ran to the Professor’s lab.
The three years that followed were painfully slow for Molly; her brother had up and let on his journey, stopping in once and a while, but mainly he just called them whenever he got the chance. She couldn’t help but be a bit jealous of her brother, at least until the day of her twelfth birthday. She was the first one awake in the household that day, and after breakfast she grabbed her bike and raced down to the lab to retrieve her first Pokémon; completely unsure of which one she wanted. After much contemplating she chose her Pokémon, and headed home to introduce Growlithe (Jun) to her family.
The next year consisted of Molly and Jun training whenever they had a spare moment, and challenging the odd trainer whom happened to be passing by their ranch. They lost the majority of these battles, but their spirit was high, and it would take a lot more than that to discourage the two.
Jun became accustomed to not being in his Pokéball, and stuck close to Molly; following her wherever she went. Which was the way it stayed by the time they left to start their journey.
While sitting around a campfire, her and Jun had constructed one evening, and making something to eat an Eevee wandered curiously into their camp. She wasn’t the least bit timid, but rather intrigued by the Growlithe and it’s trainer, though more so by their dinner. After dividing some on the food Molly had she also fed the wild Pokémon, which only seemed to make the already friendly creature, all that much more friendly. It didn’t take long for Molly to decide she wanted to capture the Pokémon, and soon after they’d finished eating she’d challenged the fox-like creature. It wasn’t an extremely long battle, though Eevee put up a surprisingly good fight. But in the end Jun won, and Molly added Kisan to the team.
The next Pokémon that Molly caught was Aiko, her Poliwag. She’d used Kisan to capture the water type. The battle was relatively short, considering he hadn’t been in a battling mood and had failed to put up much of a fight; though Molly was positive that the Pokémon could have withheld his capture for quite a while longer had he given it his all. A few days later she met a girl by the name of Brenda, and the two quickly became friends. They were both heading in the same direction, and so decided they’d travel together for a while.
A few weeks later, while still traveling with Brenda, the two had set up camp one evening; and after a long day had eventually fallen into a sweet slumber. There were very few times Jun ever returned to his Pokéball; those times usually being when it was raining, or if he’d been injured during a battle. So unsurprisingly the fire type was sprawled out on the ground next to his trainer when he awoke to a small ruckus in the camp. Immediately he got defensive, and leapt up snarling and growling warnings to the intruder, whom happened to be nothing more than a curious Bellsprout trying to go through Molly‘s backpack. The two girls woke up, each a bit startled by Jun’s protective behaviour. But upon seeing the Bellsprout Molly kicked into gear, and called her commands out to the Growlithe. Since the battle was a fire type versus a grass type, the fight ended after a few minutes; and thus, Kusuma joined the lovely little group.
Throughout the time that passed from there Brenda and Molly eventually said their goodbyes and started down different paths; and through her travels met many other companions. Some lasted only a few days, while others she travelled with for months. She also caught a new Pokémon every now and again, though wasn’t obsessive like some trainers became: trying to catch each and every Pokémon they saw. But all of the Pokémon she caught after her first four ended up at some point and time being set back to the Professor, whom she’d received Jun from, for safe keeping ((I‘m not going say which/how many other Pokémon she‘s caught, simply because I am not going to introduce them into the role play.)).
At the age of sixteen Molly met a boy named Masaki Ito during her travels. They became easy friends, and as many times before she’d found herself a bit of company for the road. As she got to him though her feelings of friendship towards him began to shift, and she felt herself drawn to him; by both a physical and emotional attraction. He was attractive, something she’d noticed from the beginning, and he turned out to be very charming as well. It wasn’t long until he admitted his feels for her as well, and then the two started dating.
Masaki had captured a Pikachu at some point in time before he’d met Molly, and had been lucky enough to come across a Thunderstone; though he wasn’t certain he wanted use it. In the end he didn’t have to make that decision.
One day while the two trainers had taken a break, lounging around under the forest’s shade, Kisan managed to get into Masaki’s bag, searching for some kind of snack; but what she found instead was the Thunderstone tucked away at the bottom of the backpack. Almost instantly the Eevee evolved into A Jolteon; despite the fact Molly’d been considering evolving Kisan into an Espeon. However, she was thrilled at the site of the yellow Pokémon, and had apologized to the boy that they’d used the stone. To this day she wasn’t sure if he’d been able to hide his irritation, or if he really hadn’t minded all that much.
Eventually she and Masaki broke up and departed from each other, each continuing on their own journeys. And Molly’s journey lead her all over the place, and now at the age of eighteen she’d returned back home, though not for the first time. She spent approximately two weeks at home, and helped her father out around the ranch. She’d just missed her younger brother, though her older brother had returned during her second week’s stay. But eventually she became restless, eager for another adventure. Dale suggested she check out the Johto Region; which was exactly what she decided to do.
Roleplay Example: This example is an introduction, in response to someone else’s. It’s for a Gifted Boarding School role play, where my character is just a regular exchange student.
A quiet yawn escaped from between her lips, and immediately she lifted a hand to cover her mouth, attempting to muffle the small noise. She was exhausted from her lack of sleep in the past twenty-four hours; which consisted of a very long flight - and which she'd been seated between an obnoxiously loud sleeper, and a woman who just wouldn't shut up -, of which had also been delayed over two hours. But once the plane had finally landed she'd had an extremely long car ride to look forward to; and the driver had chosen a bumpy, unpaved road which made it difficult to fall asleep for more that about, oh, thirty seconds at a time. It had been a long day; and yet, it was currently just after six in the morning.
After her attempt to cover her yawn, the seventeen year old ran her hand through her auburn coloured hair, before dropping her hand back down to her side. She blinked her tired, emerald green eyes a few times as she followed the man - Headmaster Collins, Campbell, Clark? - through the halls, all the while carrying a duffel bag on her shoulder, and a backpack in one hand.
She was small for her age, petite even; and had heard every short joke in the book. She found it a bit difficult to keep up with the Headmaster's long strides, considering her height and the fact that she was lugging two bags; but she managed to keep close behind, her clumsy self stumbling every so often.
A pale yellow tank top layered over a white one clung to her skin, all of which was hidden under a grey sweater that was zipped nearly to the top. The rest of her attire consisted of a pair of faded jeans, and white shoes.
The Headmaster stopped abruptly, and Molly West nearly ran into him before taking a step back. She watched as he gave a few quick knocks on the door, and then dropped the duffel bag from her shoulder onto the floor beside her feet as she heard a response from the other side of the door. Her usually smiling face was turned into an expression that showed she was tired, and a bit more than a tad nervous. Being at a school for the 'gifted' wasn't exactly where she wanted to be right now, no she would have much preferred to stay at the school in her small town with her friends and family.
But the government had made her parents an offer they couldn't resist.
It was an obvious thing that those with strange and abnormal abilities weren't accepted into today's society; the were outcasts, freaks, and deserved to be shunned. Or so the world believed. But the government was growing nervous, especially when they found out about a few kids who could cause more damage than a nuclear bomb; clearly, things had to change.
So, why not send a couple regular kids off to these ignored academies? Show them that not the whole world is against them? Only problem was, she didn't want to be here.
Being an intelligent, and friendly young woman the government had figured she was a perfect candidate for this little experiment of theirs, and since money was hard to come by for her family, a full scholarship for college had been pretty tempting to her parents. So tempting that they'd packed her bags themselves and shipped her off on the next flight despite the full blown argument when she'd found out.
And now, here she was, scared shitless, and feeling like more of an outcast than the students here. Here she was the freak; powerless and completely one hundred percent alone.
"Ah! Mr. Parker, good morning." He greeted warmly when the boy opened the door, and shifted his body so he could face both Molly and Gregory. "This is Molly West, Molly, this is Gregory Parker."
"Hi," she said quietly, shifting her weight from one foot to the other nervously as she fiddled with a silver ring on one of her fingers.
"Miss West is an exchange student from a public school," he said this slowly, his way of being discrete that she didn't attend school's for gifted, but rather a school for 'regular' students. Those without powers. He paused for a moment as he looked at Gregory, and then briefly glanced down at the petite girl. "She's going to be your roommate, and I would like for you to show her around and help her settle in."
Molly bit the inside of her cheek lightly before glancing up at Gregory to see his response to this. She couldn't imagine him being too thrilled about this, all in all, he probably didn't want anything to do with her. Him, and the other how ever many hundred kids at the school.
Oh, this was going to be a long year.
