In the last dozen years technology has been making many leaps and bounds. Cell phones can now provide access to maps, allow you to play games, some can even work as metal detectors to find hidden treasures. Pokeballs are now much more efficient, have a greater variety and are less stressful and uncomfortable for pokemon. Most of these advances are thanks to a company known as Excel Corp.
Excel is a company that was built with very little funding, and nearly no support. It's founder and CEO, Reid Lanart, was a pokemon trainer that was annoyed with pokeballs that would break after one attempt and were not able to even properly capture a pokemon. The man realized that nearly all of modern trainers' equipment was dreadfully inefficient or expensive. So with this in mind Reid decided to create a company that could make quality equipment for trainers without costing them a small fortune.
Excel was at first just a pet project worked on by Lanart and his close friends. The company did not get to make many products, but what little they were able to produce were durable, effective and oftentimes years ahead of what the competition was making. For years the out of the garage company was in the reds, not making enough for even one person to fully live off. Then on the fifth year of the company's life Reid started getting many offers from bigger companies to buy them out. This is when the man knew that he was on his way to success.
In only two more years Reid began getting funding from many gym leaders that very much supported how much he was easing the strain on regular trainers' wallets. After that even the Johto Elite Four started pouring money into Excel, so that not just those with enough money could face them but also those that weren't blessed with a trust fund. After that many local politicians began to also put their money into the now growing company, for it was seen as then supporting the people not just supporting big business. So almost as if with the will of the people Excel grew into a multibillion dollar corporation nearly overnight.
When Reid became the rich and powerful CEO of the now prosperous Excel he brought along his 11 closest friends to help him run the company, and ensure that it remained a success. Of course his friends did not want their private lives to be under the scrutiny of the public eye, nor did they want to become targets for desperate companies that would be ruined by Excel's success. So as a way to protect the livelihood of each of his friends Reid came up with the idea of each of them taking on alternative identities. With that the Titans were born.
The Titans were at first ridiculed by other companies because they saw the group as a bunch of executives that liked to play dress up. Then the world saw that Reid chose what friends he gave to power to well. The Titans were masters of the business world, they made certain that Excel never got any "bad press" nor was it behind the bend with any technology. On top of that the group made sure that the corporation's security was world class and all of Excel's files were well protected. The Titans went from a joke to an enigma that represented the downfall of any company that attempted to rival them.
For the last ten years Excel has become a household name, as has Reid Lanart. Most see the company as one of the best things to happen to Johto, but others see that every light must cast a shadow. Recent events have increased the number of those to don't trust Excel. Within the last year the company has made a miracle potion called Excel Elixir. The potion makes a pokemon stronger, heal faster, think quicker and allows them to generally perform at a rate that was not before seen as possible. Yet many customers have reported their pokemon becoming extremely aggressive or even running away after a while.
Most of those that made these claims either withdrew them or simply disappeared before they could get much attention. Many people have accused Excel Corp. of silencing those that spoke out against them, but thus far no evidence has been found to prove this accusations. Never the less the company has decided to hold a series of tournaments to better their sullied name. Yet with the events coming up it seems that Excel employees have been acting strangely and some say even illegally, perhaps there is a less benign motive behind the tournaments.
